If you are considering purchasing the Apple Macbook Air, I would closely look at this computer and compare it to the other MacBook models available. The better deal in many cases will be understanding what is right for you in terms of portability, processing power and system resources.
In most cases, computers pay the price for portability; but Apple has done a fine job of keeping the MacBook Air portable and useful. It has a full size keyboard and bright 13- inch monitor. With screen brightness at 25%, Bluetooth off, and WiFi on, the MacBook Air got 4 hours and 20 minutes of battery life with above average web activity. Half of this time was spent in Mac OS, with the other half in Vista. With the recent release of the Macbook Air, many people are already wondering what sort of market segment this laptop fits into. The MacBook Air does come with 2GB of RAM, which is plenty enough, but its processor runs at a much slower speed (1.6GHz) than the standard MacBook’s (2.2GHz). It does come with a (slower) 4,200rpm 80GB hard drive. After all the speculation, rumors, leaks, and waiting, what we are left with is the MacBook Air . This notebook will measure in at 12.8? x 8.94? x 0.16-0.76 inch and weight 3.0 pounds, putting it in the same class as high-end ultraportables like Sony’s TZ and Toshiba’s R500 , though it is a good deal thinner than other models. Another thing that concerned me was the MacBook Air battery. First, I never came close to the Apple claim of “up to five hours of battery life.”.The best I could do was just under four hours, and that was with wireless networking and Bluetooth both turned off.
The MacBook Air has a micro-DVI connector for an external video monitor. The MacBook Air ships with a micro-DVI to DVI adapter and a micro-DVI to VGA adapter. In any event, the MacBook Air lacks enough ports, has an underpowered CPU, and is limited to an 80 gig hard drive. What’s to like? So the success of the MacBook Air is really dependent on much more than just Apple and its marketing mojo. It’s about the network.
The MacBook Air’s ports are located behind a flip-up door, which is also a bit of a throwback. Built-in sound output is only a mono speaker. Because Apple has identified an untapped and very profitable market niche for the MacBook Air that will expand its market share: fashion designers and luxury hospitality companies. Aria features a high-tech aluminum frame that provides protection for the Macbook Air, as well as an integrated handle so you can carry it like a briefcase. The outside of the case is covered with premium Italian leather that gives it that elegant executive look and feel; and it includes a removable shoulder strap and external bag that holds all the computer accessories such as the power cord.
Like the iPhone did to cellphones, the MacBook Air will make fat and ugly laptops a whole lot harder to sell. Just look back at laptop design a year from now, and you’ll see its influence. The best news I got about the MacBook Air was its video-out prowess. It seems to have the same skills as the MacBook, namely that it will drive a 23-inch Apple display as a secondary display. That is an awful lot of money for a very thin notebook, although judging from the enthusiasm for the machine on the show floor, there will undoubtedly be no shortage of pre-orders for the MacBook Air.
At its thinnest point, the MacBook Air is .16 inches, while at its widest point, the notebook measures .76 inches. It weighs only three pounds. After weeks–months if you consider the rumors–of anticipation the MacBook Air is finally out in the wild. According to Apple, orders made today are shipping in two to three weeks but people who pre-ordered the Air right after the keynote should be getting their units quite soon. Moreover, plugging in the external superdrive uses the Macbook Air?s only USB port, which seriously limits the user?s options. While making things simpler is often a blessing, here many users have found it a curse.
I think the technological aspect of the Macbook Air is larger. Easily imagine the applications applied to a touchscreen tablet. But in my mind the MacBook Air is hard to beat if you’re primarily looking for an eye-catching, extremely portable laptop that’s (relatively) competitively priced. Of the products released announced yesterday, the MacBook Air is the big one. The “features” announced to the iPhone are bug fixes.

I have been wanting to purchase an Apple Macbook for close to a year. They are rather expensive compared to other brands of computers such as Dell. However, over the years I have really gotten pretty fed up with Windows, especially Windows Vista. That is a terrible operating system.
